It would be great if when you add a date to an asset and select add to expirations that it offered a recurring schedule, weekly, monthly, yearly etc, so the date doesn't have to be manually updated each time it passes.

Yes please only been adding expirations to some licensing and subscriptions today and can already see the issue notifications and reporting wise.
I Almost wonder if it needs to be a different field type for aseets maybe "Renewal Schedule"
Set the initial date and then have option to set for weekly, monthly etc or Repeat in X number of days. This way it has more uses.
