Ability to move assets

Hello Everyone!
I know this is a long time coming, even through this can't be handled in the UI, we've created a script to run that can handle the move leveraging the API.
The script and information on it can be found here: https://community.hudu.com/script-library-awpwerdu/post/migrating-assets-between-layouts-with-ease-xY9nzqtWj6X9wSL
The process basically works like this:
- Select source/destination for assets
- A template is generated to fill out for what to place where
- Once template is filled out, the script moves everything
A few things I would like to clarify:
- A couple people in the comments hit the nail on the head. The way asset layouts are designed, it's not very easy to just "move" between layouts. Theoretically, the 2 layouts would need to have identical fields or have a way to "map" fields together--which is what the script handles!
- If you data is coming from an integrationand you would like to move those items between layouts, you can easily "disconnect" the asset layout in the integration settings and then connect it to the new layout you'd like the items to be in.

I understand this is a bit complex, but if your configuring your asset layouts with consistency Hudu simply needs to match fields that are the same type and title and present you with an option to show you how it's mapping and to fill out fields you will be losing because it cannot relate them. Happy to explain my idea further. Thanks.

It would be great to be able to drag assets from one layout to another (see picture).

I don't think this is possible with the way Asset Layouts are constructed. Each Asset Layout has its own set of fields. How would you move the data of an asset that belongs to one layout to another layout if the fields don't match?

In March of 2024 it will be 4 years since this feature has been requested, and there still has not been any movement on this.
The fact that you can't currently do this is really frustrating. I agree reading most of the comments in this thread. As documentation matures sometimes you need to migrate data from one section to another. It's not very common that we would need to swap devices between 1 customer and another. It would be more common to swap them between asset categories. We had created a category for specific routers, and later determined it would be best to put them in the same container. Having to spend an hour moving 30 devices from one section to another does not make an effective use of this tool.
It would be nice if was actioned for development, who knows if/when this will ever come to fruition.

Unless I am really dumb, I have separate folders with the same asset layout for Actively used computers and for spare computers. When an employee leaves the company, I would like to very simply move that computer(Asset) from the Active layout to the spare layout. Perhaps someone has a better way t do this and can enlighten me? Thanks

This would be a common useful feature as the documentation matures and is refactored. For example, we started with just Assets, but found it useful to have both Assets - Endpoints and Assets - Servers. But all my servers are in the Endpoints currently and I'd have to remake them all.

Any update to this?

We found that if we updated the asset types in ConnectWise Manage, we had to manually delete the asset types, delete the old assets, and then resync in order for the assets to be assigned to the new type. This should happen automatically. If I change the asset layout that each asset type is placed in, Hudu should be able to move it automatically. Currently it does not do this.
